SCAM ALERT - PROBLEMS WITH MOPAR PARTS GIANT ONLINE
I ordered left and right-side rear CV (Constant Velocity) axles for my daughter's 2017 Jeep Compass. The part numbers were 5085141AB and 5085141AC respectively. I took those part numbers directly from the existing axles in her Jeep while it was up on a repair shop’s lift.
The shop informed me that the axles were not available locally but they would install the axles if I could find them from an online source, so I performed an Internet search which directed me to Mopar Parts Giant.com. Their website, however, claimed that part number 5085141AB would not work on her Jeep. That part number was now 5085240AB, which had since been replaced by part number 5085240AC and so they shipped two axles with part number 5085204AC which resulted in my receiving two axles, neither of which fit her Jeep. This seemed illogical in the first place since the rear axles in the 2017 Jeep Compass are different lengths. The right side (passenger) is about about 4 inches longer than the left. They didn't have both CV axles in stock, so they backordered one direct from a Chrysler/Jeep warehouse which arrived a week later via UPS air. Mopar Parts Giant Online normally ships by FedEx.
Speaking of FedEx, see how they handled one of the axles. The box was smashed, but fortunately the axle survived unscathed. Did anyone watch the opening scene in "Ace Ventura Pet Detective"? It appears the FedEx delivery people were trying to emulate Jim Carrey's performance at the beginning of that movie.
Neither axle would fit so I contacted Mopar Parts Giant to obtain and RMA. They requested multiple sets of photos, with still more requests for photos. They kept asking for photos of the FedEx label for the backordered axle, which was impossible since it came from a warehouse that did not ship using FedEx. After many emails back and forth, they discontinued communications with me, a tactic known as “ghosting”. No doubt this strategy is intended to allow time for the RMA to expire.
It's important to note that this seller listed "No longer needs" for the reason for the other RMA (right side axle), which is incorrect. They shipped the wrong parts. That forced me to buy cheap aftermarket axles online elsewhere instead of genuine Mopar/Jeep parts because my daughter's Jeep was occupying one of the lifts in the repair bays at Mr. Tire in Pasadena Maryland. In addition, my daughter is a school teacher and classes were beginning, leaving her without a vehicle.
The irony is, had they shipped the 5085141AC axle for the passenger side and the incorrect 5085240AC for the left, I would have had the shop install the right side only (and returned the incorrect axle) because this entire odyssey started with a bad and loud bearing in her right rear side. The problem was that the existing OEM axle end had corroded to such a degree that the shop said that once they removed the axle nut, the threads would be ruined and they would not be able to reinstall her wheel assembly. I bought both rear axles because it was logical to replace BOTH rear bearings and axles since both had serious rust issues. But that effort was thwarted by Mopar Parts Giant when they shipped the wrong axles.
These are screen captures of my order that tell the story, plus correspondence from Moparpartsgiant.com stating that they would accept ONE axle back with a 20% restocking fee. This is ridiculous since they shipped the wrong parts in the first place.
