drake tr-4cW page
My Hallicrafter Hurricane is still my #1 rig, but when I saw this little Drake going for a song, I had to bid on it. Years ago, I pondered over whether to go with Swan or Drake. Drake was expensive back then and Swan had that unrivaled power for the price, so I went with Swan.
This Drake TR-4Cw is a real gem. It puts out 180-200 watts PEP on 80, 40, and 20 meters with the AC-4 power supply. I think it does about 150 on 15M. But it's very conservatively and intelligently designed and built. It puts 650 volts on the plates of three sweep tubes, where others put 800 or more on just two. I tested it with my Universal Ham Radio Power Supply before I invested in an AC-4 and it worked well and the receiver was quiet. The seller told me that the unit had some AC hum.
So here are some assorted pictures and videos. I'll add captions and more information in a few days.
